Biography

I've followed a winding career path through engineering, missions, information technology and consulting to discover in my mid-30's that painting is one of the most personally challenging and rewarding experiences available. I completed a Foundations Painting certificate program at Gage Academy of Arts in Seattle, WA in 2008 and am now actively pursuing a career as a fine arts painter.

Artist's Statement

For most of the past two years I have been occupied with exploring the ability of figure painting to act as a container for the experience of human intimacy. My artwork investigates the "triggering" of viewers' bio-psycho-social faculties to enable the formation of an intimate experience.

My latest work consists of multiple oil on panel installations. Each panel contains a single tiny well-developed classically-formed focal point surrounded by a field of neo-expressionist or even abstractly styled rendering. The goal is to enable an experience of intimacy for the viewer by presenting snapshots of connected relational moments--triggering the viewer's own relational faculties.

My interest in this area was encouraged by my wife's recent completion of a Masters degree in Counseling Psychology and continues to be informed by my own research into Jungian psychology, evolutionary psychology, social dynamics and the working of the human visual system in connection with memory and imagination.
